SM City North EDSA celebrates the Year of The Rooster with an exhibit of plates and scrolls by the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students. This celebration also coincides with the 80th birthday of the family’s patriarch, Jose Chan Lim.
The passion of Chan Lim lies in oil and watercolor. Most of his art are on his canvas, but he has also forayed into other media such as porcelain plates, Asian lanterns and fans to infuse Western techniques into the traditional Eastern art.
“Rice paper” is used for the scroll painting. This is sourced outside the Philippines. Porcelain plates, on the other hand, are glazed and baked. They take in pride in being the only ones who do this process.
The Chan Lim Family of Artists has been engaged in the arts for close to half a century. The Chan Lim siblings Alex, Felix, Rolex and Jolex are all engineers by profession and are currently engaged in leadership positions with multinational companies.
The Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students Exhibit will be available at the SM The Block Atrium until February 12. This exhibit is one year in the making, you should really drop by to see. For art enthusiasts, they also offer art classes conducted in the family studio located in Pasig city. You may e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org. Rate starts at 6,000php for 10 sessions.
Have a happy artsy-fartsy weekend, everyone!
