No Other Woman.

Last Wednesday, instead of going home right after work and just boring myself until Hans gets home, I watched “No Other Woman” with my office mates. Being a fan of Tagalog movies myself, when my friend asked me to go with her and her boyfriend, I automatically said yes. We invited a few of our friends as well.

I wasn’t surprised when the tickets were already sold out at the Gateway Mall, where we were supposed to watch the movie originally. We were there before 7pm (screening time was 7:20) and the two cinemas that show of the movie were already full. So the time left for us was 9:50- way too late for me! We were thinking of transferring to Trinoma but there is a very slim chance that we can get tickets for all 5 of us because well, a movie that has Anne Curtis, Christine Reyes and Derek Ramsay is a big hit, that’s for sure! So we were thinking of what else we could do: watch a different movie (my vote), watch it at 9:50 (Rhea’s vote), or watch it somewhere else (the others’ vote).

My vote didn’t win.

So we decided to transfer to a different mall but it wasn’t Trinoma. Guess where? Ali Mall! Yes, Ali Mall.

The mall that was so much like a tiangge before is now an Ayala Mall-ish! Like really. WOW. I can’t remember the last time I was there because it wasn’t so nice before. I mean, it wasn’t nice at all! Before, the shops were ewwwy and the ceilings were like giving up on the building. But now, Alas!

The Cinema. In Gateway, we were being squeezed and pushed at the line but not here! There were less people.

The movie house was impressive as well. It wasn’t that big but it was very accommodating to the watchers. The only downside is that the handles couldn’t be removed (you know, that thing that you just put up to be able to hug your movie partner). But still, ’twas very nice.

Kudos to Ali Mall- really really a huge difference from what it was before. I was impressed!

Oh right. I was gonna write something about the movie. Ha-ha.

So well, from the title itself, you can easily assume that it is a movie about adultery. Derek Ramsay (oh the abs!) played Ram, a successful salesman who uses his charm to sell. He is married to Sharmaine (played by Christine Reyes), who belongs to a very wealthy family. Sharmaine is a “boring” housewife: she is very conservative, dresses “okay” and knits for goodness’ sake! But she is very loving and simple; she is the perfect wife to any husband. Ram gets a deal with a resort to provide them their furniture. The resort’s owner (Tirso Cruz III) has a very beautiful daughter, Cara (played by the lovely Anne Curtis). Cara is a happy-go-lucky type of girl. She is very playful, she’s a flirt, she doesn’t commit, you know the type.

Because Cara is very playful and is such a tease, she flirts with Ram and makes him fall for her. Ram tells her she’s already married. Cara still continues with the flirting.

Ram and Cara had an affair.

You can also again assume that their scenes were very sexy and steamy. Of course it’s not like the Hollywood steaminess but it was very steamy.

I don’t wanna be a spoiler so I’ll not give too much details. To make the story short, Sharmaine finds out; she lets out one BIG (like literally) fight to teach the mistress a lesson and to get her man back.

The verdict:

The actors: 10/10

It was by far the best performance of Anne Curtis. She was really awesome. She was the perfect choice for her role. Like seriously. She did an amazing job, I now wonder what else can she not do? She can dance, she can host, she can act- and now she can sing! She is definitely one of the best actresses we have today.

And my, Christine Reyes! I have to say that I am really not a fan of hers but she really did very well with her role. Her lines were delivered perfectly. She graced the pity of a lot just by looking at her. She didn’t even have to talk! Her face looked very fragile. She was very full of emotions. I felt soooooo sorry for her- she was that vulnerable!

And do I have to say that there couldn’t be any other guy perfect for the role of Ram but Derek Ramsay? I mean, come on! His abs did all the talking. Ha-ha! He was very sexy and well, I can’t help but hate him and Anne for their acting was very superb.

A supporting actress who was definitely well-loved by all is Carmi Martin, who plays Sharmaine’s mother. The crowd was very receptive of her and her lines.

The plot: 9/10

The movie wasn’t really that much of a tearjerker (and this is me talking, me who cried buckets of tears while watching) as compared to other Star Cinema movies but it was really very good. There was not a dull moment in it; you can’t help but imagine and be excited for what the next scene will be, although somehow, the movie was quite predictable. You know the drill: the ones with the affair will get caught, there will be a cat-fight (the reason why most boyfriends agreed to watch the movie with their girflriends), somebody will have an accident but because it is a Filipino movie, the lead will survive.

But what the movie lacked in plot, it made up for in lines.

Favorite lines from the movie:

Ang mundo ay parang Quiapo. Maraming snatcher. Maaagawan ka. Kaya lumaban ka. – Carmi Martin

You like nice things no? – Cristine Reyes / Yeah. They’re my guilty pleasures. But I really don’t feel guilty ‘cause I deserve them. – Anne Curtis

Just shut up and kiss me. And don’t you dare fall in love with me. – Anne Curtis

Bikini mo ba iyan o balat mo? – Cristine Reyes

I don’t need to read your research report. I know the market because I am the market. – Anne Curtis

Naku. Huwag na. Baka Makita mo pang nilalagyan ko ng lason ang pagkain mo. Joke lang. Medyo off yung humor ko lately. – Cristine Reyes

I’m not a mistress. I never was and I never will be one. – Anne Curtis

Alam mo kasi ang marriage parang exclusive village. Kailangan mong bantayan para hindi makapasok ang mga squatters. – Cristine Reyes

You can call me anything you want: a snake, a bitch, an other woman. But I will never be a pathetic, boring housewife. – Anne Curtis

The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Pero sa ganda mong iyan, siguradong marami kang alam na shortcuts. – Cristine Reyes

I-pack up mo na si Lucy Torres mo. Ilabas mo na si Gretchen Baretto. Ako na bahala sa red stiletto mo.”- Carmi Martin

Carmi Martin deserves a separate list for her lines but I still included some of them here. Her lines were hillarious!

I would have to say that “No Other Woman” is the bomb digidy, y’all. 🙂 Directed by Ruel S. Bayani, the movie was indeed refreshing (hot girls in bikinis, hello??). But I think that the main reason why it is such a nice movie is because lot can relate to it because sad to say, this type of story happens in real life.

Because in love, there can be………. NO OTHER WOMAN.
